The Commonwealth Bank Bushrangers have named a 12-man squad for their first JLT Sheffield Shield fixture of the new year against South Australia at the Adelaide Oval.
Peter Handscomb returns to captain the side ahead of Australia’s Test tour of South Africa alongside fellow Victorian Jon Holland.
Fast bowler Jackson Coleman has been named in the squad after an impressive KFC Big Bash League campaign for the Melbourne Stars. Coleman is yet to make his first-class debut for the Bushrangers.
Batsmen Eamonn Vines and Matthew Short also return to the squad, with Vines looking to make his first-class debut after coming close earlier in the season.
Victorian Chairman of Selectors Andrew Lynch said:
“The inclusion of Eamonn Vines and Jackson Coleman in the squad is exciting. Both have put together impressive performances with bat and ball respectively and have now earned a chance to make their debuts.
“Matthew Short made his debut last November and gets another opportunity now to continue his breakout summer – we’re very excited by his potential.
“We know it’s going to be tough to work our way back up the table and fight for a spot in the final, however we also know what it takes to go all the way. The players can’t wait to get back to four-day cricket and push for another title.”
Victoria currently sit at the bottom of the JLT Sheffield Shield table with four draws and a loss, however a tight table still leaves the door open to climb back up and fight for a fourth straight title.
