A sneak peak
Commonwealth Bank Bushrangers captain Cameron White has helped the Melbourne Stars draw first blood against the Melbourne Renegades with a blistering display of power hitting in a practice match at the MCG today.
The Stars skipper was at his big hitting best striking 71 not out from 47 deliveries to chase down the Renegades' total of 8-156 with 17 balls to spare.
White's innings included four sixes, which all came in the 16th over when he took 25 runs off left-arm spinner Aaron Heal.
Speaking after the game White was pleased with the hit out.
"The game situation dictated that we needed a few boundaries. I made the decision to go and was lucky enough that it came off," the 28-year-old said.
"The guys are really looking forward to the season. The build-up has been huge and it's going to be fantastic."
The scratch match was marred by a hamstring injury to Bushranger veteran Brad Hodge.
Opening the batting for the Renegades, Hodge retired hurt after reaching for his right hamstring following setting off for a regulation single to the square-leg boundary.
"You never want to see any of your players pull up with an injury, so it's obviously disappointing from that perspective," Renegades coach Simon Helmot said.
"However, the good news is the tear is very small and we expect Hodgey will be on deck for our 30 December fixture against Sydney Thunder at ANZ Stadium.
"We're lucky in the sense that we have a deep batting list and whoever is elevated into the opener's role will be more than capable of doing the job.
"The coaching group will sit down together at our Geelong training camp this week to decide on a suitable replacement at the top of the order for the opening two games."
The KFC Big Bash League kicks off this weekend with the Melbourne Stars opening their campaign on Saturday, December 17 at the MCG against the Sydney Thunder, while the Melbourne Renegades will travel to the Adelaide Oval to take on the Adelaide Strikers this Sunday, December 18.
