A couple of five fors

The Bryce McGain experience (not a bad name for a progressive rock band) continues.

The Bryce McGain experience (not a bad name for a progressive rock band) continues. Not content with being Victoria's legspinner, Bryce has hopped a plane and landed in Essex. Most players make their debut in County Cricket in before they turn 38, but as we all know, Bryce isn't most players.

His first game was against Kent. Essex, who only have a few games left in the season, were looking to get as much out of their hired gun as they could. McGain bowled 33.3 overs in the first innings. The good thing about being an overseas import in County Cricket is the money; the bad thing is that the counties will work you into the ground to get it. McGain who likes a bit of work, did his best to blow off any cobwebs with 5/151. Not a bad way to start to your County career.

In the second innings, McGain hardly bowled, and with Kent knocking over Essex cheaply in both innings, Essex never really made the most out of McGain's five wicket haul. With it being a dry summer, our Bryce better get used to bowling very long spells which in turn will hopefully get him into form for the start of the Australian domestic season.

Nottinghamshire traveled to Somerset with their two first class Victorians. Darren Pattinson started the game as well as possible by bowling County Cricket destroyer Marcus Trescothick with the first ball of the game. He then went on to carry the Notts attack by taking 5/95. Somerset, playing on the postage stamp known as Taunton, got away from the Non Victorian Notts' players and went on to make 517.

It was too much of a total for Notts, David Hussey amazingly failed in both innings. Notts were made to follow on and only gave Somerset a chase of 13 runs in the second innings.

Pattinson hasn't played as much this year through injury and because the internationals Ryan Sidebottom, Stuart Broad and Graeme Swann have been available for Notts at times. When Pattinson has played, he has done well with 24 wickets at 28 in six matches. Notts are favourites to take out the County Championship. So lucky they have Hussey and Pattinson to help them.
