Bobby shares in record stand

Commonwealth Bank Bushranger Rob Quiney has joined forces with English international Luke Wright to re-write the history books with a record stand in the KFC T20 Big Bash League last night.

Opening the batting for the Melbourne Stars, Quiney (62 off 50) played the perfect anchor role for Wright (117 off 60) as the pair posted the highest ever partnership of 172 during a savage display against the Hobart Hurricanes at Blundstone Arena.

Not helped by five dropped catches, some of them sitters, ladder leader Hobart conceded the highest score of the BBL season - 3-203 - and the fourth-highest in Australia of all-time.

Quiney and Wright's partnership eclipsed the old mark set by Western Australia's Shaun Marsh and Wes Robinson of 168 in 2010.

The records continued to fall for Wright, with the 26-year-old also blasting the competition's highest score and fastest century (44 balls), with the latter erasing David Hussey's mark of 47 balls for the Commonwealth Bank Bushrangers.

Nonetheless, Hussey would have a large say in the match as he captured 2-28 for the Stars after opening the bowling, as well as a fine running catch on the boundary before the Hurricanes eventually finished on 9-184.

The victory lifts the Stars into third position on the BBL ladder with just one match to play and after a slow start to their campaign the very real prospect of a semi-final berth.

"I was quite lucky," Wright said after the victory.

"Bobby Quiney played really well and got off to a really good start and it let me have a few balls to get my eye in.

"He's done that the whole competition so to play with him makes my job a whole lot easier."

The Stars host the Adelaide Strikers at the MCG on Wednesday, January 19.
