The Queensland Bulls proved to be too strong for the DEC Bushrangers today, claiming victory by 3 wickets in a closely contested match at TIO stadium in Darwin.

The Vics made several changes to the team that faced South Australia the day before, bringing in young paceman James Pattinson and spinner Bryce McGain, electing to rest Peter Siddle and Shane Harwood after their comeback matches.

The Bushrangers won the toss and elected to bat with Brad Hodge and Rob Quiney again opening. Wickets fell early for the Vics with Hodge (2), Quiney (7) and Wade (9) all going in quick succession of one another leaving the team at 3/31 in the 9th over.

David Hussey (32*) brought some steadiness to the Bushrangers batting but they still couldn't find the boundary and wickets continued to fall with John Hastings stumped on 2, Glenn Maxwell caught on 1 and Pattinson going for a duck.

In the 15th over the Bushrangers were 7/59 and in great danger of not reaching a triple figured score until the unlikely hero of fast bowler Clint McKay came to the crease. Smashing 23 off the final over including four consecutive sixes, McKay (37*) helped his side post a modest total of 7/108 at the end of the innings.

Hussey ensured the Vics got off to a flyer in the second innings snaring four early wickets and impressive figures of 4 for 2 from 3 overs, leaving Queensland reeling at 4/26, however a half century partnership put on by Chris Lynn and Craig Phillipson saw the Bulls cruise to 4/74.

Late wickets from Pattinson and two from Hastings saw the Bushrangers back in contention needing to simply restrict the Bulls batmans, who needed eight runs for the win in the penultimate over. James Hopes smashed a six for victory leaving the Victorians to face up to their second consecutive loss in Darwin.

Tomorrow the Bushrangers will play in a double header at TIO Stadium against South Australia at 10.30am and then Queensland at 2.30pm.
