Carters Saves AIS Again
For the second successive match, AIS Captain and Bushranger Ryan Carters has saved the AIS from defeat on the last day of their three-day match against India Emerging Players.
After a four hour innings of 70 in last week's match against South Africa Emerging Players, Carters this time scored a patient century - spending five hours at the crease for 115 runs.
It was the third time in the series he had passed fifty and he finished the tournament the AIS's top run-scorer with 294 runs at an average of 49.
Fellow Bushranger Glenn Maxwell continued his good form with another fifty on the final day. His 73 came at a typically brisk rate - from 95 deliveries.
Maxwell, who currently has a first-class average of 76, finished the Emerging Players Tournament with 256 runs.
The hosts were lucky to escape with a draw after India chalked up a 329-run first-innings lead.
After Carters and Maxwell were dismissed to give India a sniff of victory, Bushranger spinner Jon Holland and West Australian wicketkeeper Sam Whiteman saw out the last half hour with the AIS finishing at 7/328.
Any hope of an AIS victory quickly evaporated on the opening day when they were dismissed for 205. Whiteman (53) and New South Welshman Nic Maddinson (82) were the only two batsmen to show some resistance.
There were positive signs for the upcoming season for the Bushrangers with Victorians (Carters, Maxwell and Alex Keath) three of the AIS's top four run-scorers and Holland taking five wickets.
AIS 205 (Maddinson 82, Whiteman 53) & 7/328 (Carters 115, Armstrong 75, Maxwell 73) drew with India Emerging Players 534 (S.Tiwary 151, Menaria 112, Rahane 100, Pandey 66, M.Tiwary 59)
