Hill strokes Premier ton

Commonwealth Bank Bushranger Michael Hill has reminded state selectors of his class with a sensational hundred for Melbourne in Premier Cricket at the weekend.

Hill struck 118 from 138 deliveries reaching the Albert Ground fence 17 times and clearing it twice with 80 of his runs scored in boundaries.

Ankle surgery in October has meant that the 23-year-old has missed most of the season to date.

However, with the Bushrangers still in the running to make the Bupa Sheffield Shield final, the stylish left-hander could see some action with the Bushrangers yet.

"It was good personally to get a few runs. It's always nice to come back after a long layoff because you can start to doubt yourself so to get a score felt good," Hill said.

"I pulled up ok, it was a bit sore the next day but that's expected after surgery, it's just a matter of keeping on top of the rehab."

Coming in at three, Hill and Melbourne skipper Andrew Kent (95) added 190 for the second wicket to give the Demons a slim chance of pulling off a rare reverse outright.

"Kenty and I have a batted a fair bit together so we tend to feed off each other really well."

Despite Hill's hundred, Camberwell still managed to take all 10 points and in the process move into eighth spot, some nine points clear of Casey-South Melbourne, which is the next best challenger.

Over the weekend, the Bloods failed to capture any points after narrowly missing out on what would have been a remarkable comeback win against Fitzroy-Doncaster.

Resuming overnight at 3-115, Fitzroy-Doncaster needed just 44 runs for victory with seven wickets in hand.

The Lions lost 6-39 until tail-enders Jon Fagg (12) and Ejaaz Elavi snuck the home side over the line.

The drama was not finished there, however, as both teams searched for further points late in the day.

Set 127 runs in 15 overs for an outright win, the Lions got off to a perfect start via a blistering 32-ball half-century from former Bushranger Lloyd Mash (52).

Needing 15 from the final over for victory, Fitzroy-Doncaster managed to get the equation down to four needed from the final delivery but could only manage a single to settle for six points.
