Holding the upper hand
A century to Matthew Wade and a blistering spell from Jayde Herrick has provided the Commonwealth Bank Bushrangers with the upper hand entering day three of their Bupa Sheffield Shield clash with Tasmania.
The Tigers were 6-170 at stumps, with Alex Doolan unbeaten on 73 and Luke Butterworth on 42, still trailing the visitors by 192 and 42 runs short of avoiding the follow-on.
It could have been a lot worse for the Tigers, after they collapsed to be 6-67 shortly after the tea break, sparked by a four-wicket haul to Jayde Herrick (4-33) and two early break throughs to Glenn Maxwell (2-30).
"It has been a very quick turnaround, I was working at that stage (last year)," Herrick told AAP in relation to his meteoric rise to the first-class arena.
"It's been a pretty busy last 12 months and I've come a long way."
Earlier in the day, Wade (108) notched his fourth first-class hundred before the Commonwealth Bank Bushrangers were dismissed for 362, losing their final four wickets for 63.
The left-hander top-scored with 12 fours and two sixes and received valuable support from tail-enders Clint McKay (31) and James Pattinson (27 not out), while Chris Rogers contributed 55 on day one.
Having reached 23 without loss, Steve Cazzulino (12) was the first man out for the Tigers when he was trapped in front on the first ball of Maxwell's spell.
Kruger (three) became Maxwell's second victim before Herrick unleashed a withering spell either side of the tea break, taking 4-2 at one stage in the space of just 14 balls.
His wickets included the prized scalps of skipper George Bailey for a duck and Ed Cowan for 25.
Play will continue at Blundstone Arena from 10.30am this morning.
