Maxwell to play IPL

Commonwealth Bank Bushrangers all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has been recruited by Indian Premier League side Delhi for the seven-week tournament which begins on April 4.

Maxwell, who represented the Melbourne Renegades in this season's KFC T20 Big Bash League, replaces South African Colin Ingram in the squad which boasts world-class players such as Virender Sehwag, Mahela Jayawardene, Morne Morkel, Kevin Pietersen, Ross Taylor, David Warner and  Victorian star Aaron Finch.

Delhi Daredevils mentor  Thirumalai Sekhar said he and team manager Aashish Kapoor had been keeping their eye on Maxwell for a while.

"When Aashish and I watched Glenn in the Emerging Players Tournament in Australia in July last, we saw him as a player of immense potential who loves being in the contest," Sekhar said.

"When we watched him bat, we were reminded of how we had spotted David Warner in 2008...we believe Glenn will play for Australia soon.

"Besides being a dashing batsman, Glenn is a solid off-spinner and an amazing fielder, with infectious enthusiasm."

Maxwell's improved consistency with the ball this season, in which he took 23 wickets across all three formats, should make him a great recruit for the Daredevils, a side he said he "can't wait" to play for.

Delhi play their first match on April 5 against a Kolkata side which will be without James Pattinson who will be playing in the Test series in the West Indies.
