Proper good batting

While it should now be clear to any right thinking Victorian fan that Nottinghamshire is their team, David Hussey went out of his way to make sure everyone of us supports them.

While it should now be clear to any right thinking Victorian fan that Nottinghamshire is their team, David Hussey went out of his way to make sure everyone of us supports them. Hussey, who had failed in the previous game, gave Yorkshire a furious beating like only he can. 251 from 250 balls, proper good batting. Yorkshire, with no Victorians, could do little to stop him.

You may expect this from Hussey, demand it even, but this double century was even better as it came at Headingley, the home of the 88 runs against Pakistan. The Australian batsmen might not be able to keep up with the furious nature of that pitch, but Hussey can. It is now clear to all the clever people that if Hussey had played in that game that not only would Australia had not scored 88, but they probably wouldn't have drawn the series. Without Hussey, Australia is doomed.

Lucky for Notts their two first class Victorians (let us not forget Pattinson's five for last week) are getting them closer and closer to winning the County Championship. They didn't win this game, but this double hundred by Hussey has torn the limbs off Yorkshire's campaign, who are on top (mostly because they have played more games than Notts). With them getting smashed by Hussey, this really caps up a terrible week, as their young gun Azeem Rafiq was suspended by the ECB for abusing the England under 19 coach on twitter. Clearly he learnt nothing from NSWales Phil Hughes failed twittering.

In other Vic news Andrew McDonald has arrived home, due to his shoulder injury has not fully recovered, and last week he played for Leicestershire as a batsman. Even though he made a half-century, he decided it was time to come home and take care of his shoulder for the Australian summer ahead.

Bryce McGain might also be coming home. With Pakistan dropping Danish Kaneria to find some form in County Cricket, Essex is yet to make a decision on which legspinner they want. Oliver Brett of the BBC announced that Essex will only take Danish Kaneria back if the PCB allow him to play in their T20 finals.

If McGain does come back, it won't be the end of the world as he has had a lovely little pre season warm up, and will be ready to continue his good work for the Vics. In Essex's loss to Warwickshire, his 4/33 and stunningly bravely Victorian 24 were two of the few bright spots in a very disappointing effort.

There is nothing to report on Chris Rogers, but I feel bad not mentioning him when I have talked about all the Vics over here.
