Quiney and McDonald to play in Champions League
Though the Victorian Bushrangers did not qualify for this year's Nokia Champions League Twenty20, they will be represented in the competition by Andrew McDonald and Rob Quiney.
McDonald will be playing for Leicestershire, the winner of the Friends Life t20 tournament. McDonald was named Man of the Series after the Final was played on August 27. In 18 matches he amassed 584 runs (the most in the competition) and had a strike rate of 128.35. He also took 14 wickets with an economy rate of 7.90.
Quiney has qualified to play for the Auckland Aces, after playing one match for the team in late December. He made his presence felt during his short time with the side, smashing 55 from 29 balls in his only innings.
As well as McDonald and Quiney, there will be four former Bushrangers also taking part in the tournament. Dwayne Bravo (Chennai Super Kings), Aiden Blizzard (Mumbai Indians), Dirk Nannes (Royal Challengers Bangalore) and Tim Ludeman (South Australia) will ensure Victorian fans have someone to keep an eye on in nearly all the matches.
In the two previous editions of tournament, Victoria made the Semi Final (2009) and the Group Stage (2010).
The tournament begins on September 19 when Auckland, Kolkata Knight Riders, Leicestershire, Ruhunu Eleven, Somerset and Trinidad & Tobago play in the qualifying stage of the tournament. The top three sides will then proceed into the Group Stage where they will take on Cape Cobras, Chennai Super Kings, New South Wales, Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore, South Australia and the Warriors (South Africa).
The final will be played on October 9 in Chennai.
