Quiney returns for top-of-the-table clash
The Commonwealth Bank Bushrangers have included Rob Quiney in their 13-man squad for tomorrow's top-of-the-table RYOBI One-Day Cup match against South Australia at the MCG.
Victoria will be out for its fifth successive victory and have also included Darren Pattinson and Will Sheridan, who both return from injury, in the team.
John Hastings, who has been called into the Australian squad for the third Vodafone Test at the WACA, and Ian Holland are both out of the team that defeated New South Wales in a record-breaking run-chase on November 18.
Quiney says he has learnt from being a part of the Test squad and there are things he will look to implement back in the Victorian set-up.
"It's all about more intent and that will to win," Quiney said.
"In Victoria we have the mantra that we can win from any position and it was the same in the Test squad.
"It's about everyone wanting to chime in at crucial stages of a match."
The opening partnership between Quiney and Aaron Finch has been a big aspect of the Bushrangers' blistering start to the season, the pair notching 345 (347) in three innings together.
"I'm looking forward to getting back with Finchy at the top, hopefully it's a nice wicket and we can get the team off to a good start," Quiney said.
Quiney's medium outswingers that were used regularly by Michael Clarke in the past two Tests have been rarely seen for Victoria, but that may be about to change.
"I wouldn't mind bowling a bit more," said Quiney, who has a Test economy rate of just 1.16.
"If Whitey (Cameron White) throws me the ball I'll be happy, and with Hasto (Hastings) out they may be looking for a few overs, but my main aim is to make runs at the top of the order."
Victoria are currently in first position on the RYOBI One-Day Cup ladder, five points ahead of the reigning title holders, South Australia, and a win can almost assure a position in the final.
Play is scheduled to commence at 2.15pm at the MCG and will be broadcast on Fox Sports.
Meanwhile, the world's premier sporting stadium, the MCG, will once again host the Commonwealth Bank Bushrangers this summer, with the gates thrown wide open to children 15 years and under during every Bupa Sheffield Shield and RYOBI One-Day Cup match.
