Siddle returns to Test side
Commonwealth Bank Bushrangers spearhead Peter Siddle has been named to make his return to the Australian side for the first Test against Sri Lanka in Hobart on December 14.
The lion-hearted paceman returns after his missed last week's Perth Test following his marathon efforts in the drawn second Test against South Africa in which he bowled 64 overs and collected 6-195.
Siddle is joined in the 12-man squad by Victorian teammate Matthew Wade while Jon Hastings misses out with back soreness.
Despite missing a match, Siddle was still Australia's leading paceman during the series, picking up nine scalps.
Commenting on Hastings' injury status, Cricket Australia's chief medical officer Justin Paoloni said the all-rounder's injury isn't too severe.
"John Hastings had some back pain at the completion of the Perth Test," Paoloni said.
"He had scans that have ruled out serious injury. He will be reviewed later this week to determine his return to training and playing.
"He will miss the first KFC T20 Big Bash League game and possibly be unavailable for selection for the first Vodafone Test versus Sri Lanka in Hobart, depending on how responds to treatment.
The match against Sri Lanka begins on December 14 from 10.30am.
Meanwhile in Canberra, Glenn Maxwell has pushed his claims for future Test selection with a blazing 91 from just 77 deliveries in the Chairman's XI side against Sri Lanka yesterday.
The Victorian all-rounder struck 11 boundaries and two sixes as the home side amassed 4-390.
