Wade looking to take the next step
A brief stint in South Africa with the Australian Twenty20 side has shown Commonwealth Bank Bushrangers wicketkeeper Matthew Wade what it takes to be a part of the national side.
Wade, 24, says the time he spent with the Australian side was invaluable.
"Being involved in the team for a short period of time has shown what intensity I have to get to," Wade said.
"I know now what I have to do...especially with intensity at training."
With Brad Haddin retiring from international Twenty20s, Wade knows he is fighting with Tasmanian Tim Paine for the wicketkeeping position.
"Me and Painey are there and thereabouts...I feel really good (with the gloves)...I did a lot of work with Steve Rixon in South Africa and the ball is coming into the gloves well at the moment," Wade said.
After three consecutive away matches, the diminutive left-hander is looking forward to playing Western Australia tomorrow in Melbourne.
"We are looking to take full points from two of our next three matches," Wade said.
"Queensland have shot out of the block with three wins...we are equal points with Western Australia so it's a big game for us - it's the first thing the coach said in our meeting."
The improvement of two of Victoria's lesser known players Glenn Maxwell and Jayde Herrick bodes well for the Bushrangers future success.
"Maxi is getting better every time he steps out on the ground," Wade said.
"Jayde, coming in this year, has taken the most wickets in the competition; he looks like a really good reverse swing bowler.
"Since Wrighty (Damien Wright) has a got a hold of him down at (his club side) Casey, he is doing the job, bowling with good pace...he might go for a few but he has that knack of picking up a wicket."
Commonwealth Bank Bushrangers play Western Australia in the Bupa Sheffield Shield at the MCG from 11.00am tomorrow.
