Victorian wicket-keeper batsman Matthew Wade belted a brilliant 80 as Australia A turned its dominance over Sri Lanka A to the Twenty20 format on Friday with a 27-run win in Townsville.

The home side posted an impressive 4-176 after winning the toss in the one-off match at Tony Ireland Stadium.

Wade, striking at 160, opened the batting with Bushrangers team-mate Aaron Finch (29 from 22 balls) and put the Australians on the front foot in the first 10 overs.

Down the order, skipper George Bailey (35 off 24 balls) and Adam Voges (17 from 13) also chipped in.

In reply the Sri Lankans never got going as James Pattinson struck twice in the first five overs to have the touring side at 2-23.

Mahela Udawatte began to make inroads with his 28 off 22 but the assignment quickly became difficult and there was no way back after Dinesh Chandima (23) and Chamara Kapugedera (26) were dismissed.

Brendan Drew (2 -19), Moises Henriques (1-11) and Andrew McDonald (2-27) ensured there would be no late onslaught from the visitors, who finished at 7-149.

Earlier in the tour Australia A won both four-day matches. The teams will square off again on Sunday in the first of three one-day games.
