Warne: Wade is ready

Spin king Shane Warne believes Commonwealth Bank Bushrangers gloveman Matthew Wade is ready to play Test cricket.

While Warne backed New South Wales' Brad Haddin to remain as Australia's first choice wicket-keeper earlier today, form permitting, the legendary spinner said the queue to replace him commenced with his Melbourne Stars teammate.

"If his opportunity comes I think he's ready to play," Warne said of Wade.

"I think he's definitely the next keeper after Brad Haddin, whenever Brad Haddin's time is up.

"Hopefully he (Haddin) makes a big hundred in Adelaide and he's fine, he can play for another fair bit of time.

"But if things panned out and the selectors decided to go another way then Matthew Wade would 100 per cent do a great job in all forms of the game and he's ready to go."

Having succeeded Haddin as Australia's Twenty20 gloveman in South Africa last year, Wade continues to apply the blowtorch to the national selectors with 316 runs at 63.2 in the Bupa Sheffield Shield this season, as well as a polished half-century for Australia A against New Zealand.

A blistering century against Western Australian in the RYOBI One-Day Cup, his fourth in the competition since the start of last season, underlines Wade's versatility across all three formats of the game.
