Finch's meteoric rise has seen him go from a fringe player only two seasons ago to representing Australia in front of a vocal home crowd in January. In just his second international match, Finch rose to the challenge, collecting the Man of the Match award, with a fine performance. With Australia struggling at 5-80, Finch responded with a 32-ball half century.

A rock at the top of the order, Finch was the fourth-highest run scorer in the Ryobi One-Day Cup with 432 runs. He continually got Victoria off to a flying start - being a part of three century partnerships. His form in the Sheffield Shield, in which he played every match, was consistent without being outstanding. He scored five fifties but failed to capitalise on these starts and did not register a century.

A hard-hitting top order powerhouse, Finch was awarded Victoria's Twenty20 Big Bash Player of the Season. Finch was, by far, the Bushrangers' best batsman pilling on 222 runs in just five games. Finch's dominance in the award was highlighted by the fact that he was the only Victorian player selected in the Johnnie Walker ACA Interstate Twenty20 Team of the Year.

Finch is noted for his aggressive batting but does so in a composed fashion with minimal movement at the crease. Selection for Australia A in the Australian winter suggests those characteristics have not been lost on national selectors and another appearance in the green and gold will not be far away.
