The national Twenty20 captain, White's selection in the Australian One-Day and Twenty20 sides meant Victorian fans didn't get to see much of their skipper last summer.

Chosen at just 20 to captain Victoria way back in 2003, White was tagged as a long-term national representative from very early in his career. Back then he was a leg-spinner who could bat a bit, but the slow improvement of that bowling meant that by his mid-20s he found himself as only a back-up member of the national team.

By the end of the 2008-09 season, however, he had taken the Bushrangers to a long-awaited Sheffield Shield title - and proved his quality by scoring a century in that match. Since that match the improvement of his batting has been immense, to the point he is now reputed to be one of the most devastating batsmen in the world in limited-over cricket.

While no more than an occasional leg-spin bowler anymore, White arguably retains his all-rounder status just because of his cougar-like fielding.
