A promising all-rounder, Clive Rose was rewarded for an outstanding Kookaburra Premier Cricket season with Casey-South Melbourne with selection in the Victorian one-day side for their final match of the season.

In his first match for his state, Rose, 22, opened the bowling and impressed all with his flighted left-arm off-spinners, including captain Cameron White.

"I was really impressed with Clive, he's done quite well in our trial matches, and he got an opportunity today and was quite promising as well," White said after the match.

Rose also contributed with the bat, striking an unbeaten 23, at better than a run a ball, an aspect of his game that thrilled the skipper.

"We've got something to work on with Clive. It's exciting for him and for Victoria."

The former Australian Under-19s player is one of the favourites for this season's Jack Ryder Medal, for the outstanding player in Premier cricket.

At the time of his Victorian debut, Rose had grabbed 37 wickets at an average below 20 and also made 409 runs at 31.46.
