Best known for a solitary Test appearance for England - his country of birth - in 2008, the tall, strong bowler has the ability to 'hit the deck' and challenge batsmen with his bounce.
First chosen for the Bushrangers as a 29-year-old who combined his weekend pursuit of club cricket with his full-time roof-tiling occupation, Pattinson played only eight first-class matches in his first two seasons - primarily due to the Bushrangers' battery of pacemen, but even in that time showed himself to be a handy depth bowler.
Pattinson's real value to Victoria was at its most evident last season. When he was in the side and not sidelined through injuries, the Bushrangers were a much stronger side. In the opening Shield game of the season, Pattinson destroyed Western Australia with career-best figures of 8-35. But then, after five wickets in the following match against Tasmania, injuries struck again and he would finish with just three matches in a disappointing season.
He can sometimes be expensive with the ball because of his desire to fire the ball in at a full length, although this ensures he is always a chance of snaring leg-before decisions and catches behind the wicket.
