The fact that Hussey is a West Australian by birth has long been forgotten by Victorian fans, who laud the right-hander for his consistent run-scoring ability - and the flair with which he does it.
A return to the Australian One-Day side in January, after 18 months on the outer, was recognition of Hussey's domestic form. He was one of Australia's most valuable batsmen during the seven-match series against England, hitting 236 runs at an average of 47.2. Despite his good 50-over record, Hussey only played two games during the World Cup. In Australia's last match of the tournament, the quarter final loss to India, Hussey was the side's best player, hitting 38 quick fire runs and bowling five economical overs.
The highlight of his season with the Bushrangers, in which he played six Sheffield Shield and seven One-Day matches, was a particularly belligerent 122 against New South Wales. The bowling attack comprising of five international players - Mitch Starc, Nathan Hauritz, Shane Watson, Steven Smith and Stuart Clark - were no match for Hussey as he cut, drove and pulled the ball in an entertaining 162-ball knock.
The importance of his bowling for the Bushrangers cannot be understated. As well as having the unique ability to get through an over in close to a minute, Hussey can also be relied upon to bowl his full quota in the One-Day side, if the team decides to go without a specialist spinner.
