About John Hastings

In between his games with the Australian side, Hastings played six matches for the Bushrangers, exhibiting the form that made him the best young player in the country. In three Shield matches, he captured 11 wickets at a miserly average of 22.6. Nine wickets in just three One-Day matches captured the attention of national selectors and when he was selected in the 15-man squad for the World Cup, it came as no surprise to those that had been watching his form closely.

Hastings was not given an opportunity during the World Cup but played in all matches on the VB Tour of Bangladesh. He starred in a tour match against a Bangladesh Board XI, taking a hat-trick. He was also the best performed paceman on Australia A's tour of Zimbabwe, collecting nine wickets.

Hastings' massive stature befits a bowler of raw pace; however, he is actually a very intelligent bowler whose lack of extreme pace is made up for with swing and subtle movement.
