A defiant century against the touring English showed that Hill has the technique and skill to succeed at the highest level. His unbeaten 105, against world-class bowlers Tim Bresnan and Chris Tremlett, was the highlight of his season.

The former Australian under-19 captain consolidated on his past Victorian performances, becoming a regular fixture in both the One-Day and Shield sides. Due to the unusually wet weather around the nation, green wickets greeted the players and the season turned out to be a bowler's paradise. Hill was given the arduous task of opening the batting in the Shield side, with his main objective to blunt the attack, taking the shine off the ball so the batsmen down the order could prosper. He performed this job manfully - facing, on average, 56 balls per innings.

The powerful left-handed batsman travelled north to play with Waratah in the Darwin & District Cricket Competition during May and June. Batting in the middle order, he struck 143 runs with a highest score of 63.
