Twenty-one-year-old Carters made significant steps from back up wicketkeeper to consistent member of the side during the 2010-11 season. After making his Twenty20 debut in 2009-10, Carters played his first Shield and One-Day match for the Bushrangers last season.

Thrown straight in the deep-end, Carters opened the batting against an Ashes-winning attack in the Sir Robert Menzies Memorial Match - his first-class debut. His talent shone through as he top-scored in Victoria's second innings with 68. Significantly, Carters played the final three Shield matches as a batsman. He again showed he wasn't out of his depth, making a half century in his first Sheffield Shield appearance.

A dominant Futures League competition, where Carters was the outstanding batsman of the competition with 588 runs at an average of 73.5, forced the state selectors to take notice. Showing his skill in all formats, Carters was also the leading run scorer in the Futures League Twenty20 competition with an impressive strike rate of 147.69. An unbeaten 85 in the Final showed that he was a big time player.

Carters was originally poached by Victoria from the Australian Capital Territory to become Matthew Wade's understudy in the Bushrangers squad. While he arrived as a complete unknown to all but his new state's coaches, his sterling form with the bat in Melbourne's club cricket competition indicated he was a canny acquisition.
